We can ignore everything but slow Internet connection. At least in 2023, it is impossible to use a slow internet connection during the pandemic (covid-19) when everyone is forced to sit at home and work from home.
There can be hundreds of reasons for being a slow internet connection, such as your internet plan, Wi-Fi signal, bandwidth, slow DNS servers, and even your Wi-Fi router.
However, I am not interested in narrow down all of them. It is better to stick to the main problem, which is nothing but your outdated Wi-Fi router. Yes, you heard it right. The most common issue, for most people, for slow internet is coming from their modem/routers.
It doesn’t matter how fast your internet service provider—be it Comcast Xfinity, Cox, Verizon Fios, CenturyLink, Optimum, AT&T Uverse, or even Spectrum— and your internet plan is. If your Wi-Fi router can’t handle it, you will never be able to achieve that internet speed that your ISP promises.
However, finding the compatible Wi-Fi router with your ISP is not a simple task. It requires some technical knowledge of a router and modem—which most people lack and end up buying the wrong product.
That’s why I am writing this article and sharing my knowledge with you guys. I’ll make sure your ISP fully approves every router recommended by me.
Before we move further, let me know what you will prefer: a rented modem/router from your ISP or your own compatible modem/router?
Both have their advantages and disadvantages. However, I want you to buy your own Wi-Fi router rather than renting it from your ISP.
Still, let’s understand when: Buy vs. Rent a router.
You start it off by checking out your rental fee; simply check your monthly bill if there is an additional fee on your bill.
Note: It is very common for ISPs to charge somewhere between $60 and $120 a year.
If it is, you have an option to eliminate it by buying your own router.
I can’t mention your modem/router’s rental fee since it all depends on the service provider (Comcast, Optimum, Charter Spectrum, Cox, and others) and your region.
For example, if you’re a Cox subscriber, you might know about their bundle. It includes TV, digital phone plan, and of course, internet with a free modem if you choose to bundle services.
Verdict: Buy Vs. Rent
You can save up to $120 if you buy your own router instead of going with any rented one from your ISP. Since most modems and Wi-Fi routers cost between $50 and $200, you’ll have recovered the cost within a year or so.
